About the Author

J.D. HUGHES

A ‘sort of’ Writer, living in the Peak District of Derbyshire, England.

JD has worked as a writer, director and producer of commercials, short films,  corporate and music promos.  A few years ago, he gained an MA in Film Studies and Screenwriting by accident, whilst continuing to work as a freelance. He loves film, so enjoyed the experience and almost continued on to a PhD, but decided that it would interfere with real writing and painting the shed. Besides which, he didn’t know what ‘PhD’ meant.

JD started writing fiction aged 11 and it has taken him until now to be competent – obviously a slow learner. Some might say that point of competency is still some way off. Despite those people, JD is determined to inflict his writing on innocent readers and will be doing so to the exclusion of all other delusions (except painting the shed) for the foreseeable future.

He apologizes in advance to those who will  be offended, and hopes the rest of the world will enjoy some of it.

Don’t tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass.  ~

Welcome FLG! When one likes one should say, so I did 🙂 Thanks for the compliment – it’s because I’ve lived a long time, probaby older than your avatar – if that is a picture of you then obviously I am older 😉

      • Hahaha! The photo is of a character from a sitcom in America called “The Golden Girls” that aired in the mid-1980s and early 1990s. Furrylittlegnome is much younger than “Sophia Petrillo”.

I remember seeing it once, but the image didn’t register. On second thoughts, she is a lot older than me, by at least two years….it was the lack of a zimmer that fooled me.

Good to meet you, Cara 🙂 My first story was about a magic dog. It could travel to the moon. Sadly, my writing hasn’t improved much since. When did you start?

J.D.- I loved your remark: “…and almost continued on to a PhD, but decided that it would interfere with real writing and painting the shed.” 🙂

It’s very important that you finish painting the shed — as that represents the real three-dimensional experiences you gather in life that turbo charges your writing.

Remember, he who does naught has naught to write about, right?

This made me laugh, John! You are right, of course. Little is more important in life than painting the shed. In fact, I now have two sheds to double the experience. My next novel will be about sheds and the painting of them – but will be masked as a thriller where, cleverly, sheds are never mentioned 🙂
